Super Bowl Champions Green Bay Packers

Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl XLV Champions

Pittsburgh was favored by many to to win this years Super Bowl. After all they had the "Steel Curtain". Did the steel curtain turn into aluminum foil? Where were Pittsburgh's hard hitting defensive leaders, Troy Polamalu and James Harrison? Polamalu, defensive player of the year whiffed more tackles than he made, with the only hard hit being on Green Bays Greg Jennings as a caught a touchdown pass. Harrison only got to Rodgers once and overall was ineffective, except for his criticism of the NFL during the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

Green Bay, although having fewer total yards than Pittsburgh, had a solid lead at the end of the first half. Aaron Rodgers made great passes with one being a completion into the end zone for their first touchdown. Watching Rodgers, I would classify Rodgers as having a "quick release". He finds the receiver and bang the ball is gone.

The second half turned a lopsided Super Bowl into an exciting championship game as Green Bay struggled and Pittsburgh scored during the third quarter. Green Bay still lead 21-17, but Pittsburgh had scored 14 points, narrowing the difference to only 4 points.

The Steelers appeared to have the momentum to bypass and beat Green Bay, but on the first play of the fourth quarter they fumbled the ball, only for Green Bay to recover. I believe that was the beginning of the end when Green Bay went on the score a TD off the fumble. The fourth quarter battle between Green Bay and Pittsburgh continued until the final minute when Pittsburgh needed a go ahead touchdown to win the game, but missed a first down opportunity when it was fourth down.

Overall, a great football game between two classic NFL teams.

Super Bowl XLV is anticipated to be a rough and defensive game. The Steelers defense will need to hold off the Packers blitz and the Packers defense will need to get to Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh's offensive line is battered and it's a reasonable doubt they may not be able to stop the Packers blitz. Ben Roethlisberger will need to hold his ground and take a few hits to make plays. Then again Aaron Rodger's will be playing with a weak running game and Pittsburgh's defense, ranked third best in NFL's modern era, infiltrating Green Bay's line. Rodger's can not play alone. What about special teams? Packers punter Tim Masthay may be able to give them an edge if he can pin back the Steelers into their end zone. With two great NFL teams ready to play, it's gonna be a close one.

Super bowl means parties, food, drinks, friends, watching the game and of course those special super bowl commercials. This years match up is a great one with two great NFL teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, meeting in the new Dallas Cowboys football stadium.

If you are holding a super bowl party for the first time be sure to have everyone bring their own special dish. The host does not want to spend all day cooking, with exhaustion setting in at 6:30 when the game starts. Food dishes don't have to be complicated and should be easy to prepare. After all this is a party, not a gourmet food affair.

With two defenses that rank in the top 10 in the league in fewest takeaways, points allowed, and yards allowed, will the Packers or the Bears win the NFC Championship? Two of the hottest post season quarterbacks will be fighting for their spot to play in their first Super Bowl. Rodger and Cutler have combined over the last three playoff games to throw for 820 yards, run for three scores, and eight touchdowns. Neither has thrown an interception. Sports Illustrated is predicting Packers to win 17, Bears 13. SI believes this low scoring game will magnify ever mistake, and expects Cutler to make one more then Rodgers.

Victory in the swamp! It was only Appalachian State, but it still was a sweet victory and a great way for the seniors to end their year on "Senior Day".

Next week, Florida State. The Florida Gators won't be playing for any kind of championship, be it the conference or national variety. But defeating their biggest rival would cure some of the sting for the Gators, who view their upcoming showdown with Florida State as a bit of a mood improver in a season of disappointment.

The Gators haven't lost to FSU since 2003, a run of six consecutive victories over their instate rivals. Coach Urban Meyer has never lost to FSU, and his predecessor, Ron Zook, even knocked off the Seminoles as a sort of parting gift in what was his final game as UF head coach at the end of the '04 season. Biggest rivalry in college football,'' Meyer called it, a personal assessment that could be argued by the folks in Ann Arbor and Columbus, as well as those in Norman and Austin.

Can the Gators beat FSU? Florida (7-4) has been mediocre in the Southeastern Conference, better than the second-tier teams but not as good as those at the top. But this is a rivalry that should bring out the best in both teams. Florida has the ability, they have just lacked the spark and drive to be a great team. The Swamp's motto "Where only Gators get out alive" certainly did not seem to be the case Saturday night as South Carolina overwhelmed Florida in all aspects of play and beat them 36 to 14. "We just didn't execute," Meyer said. "We're just not very good."

Florida Gators Football, Whats Next

Despite three embarrassing losses, the opportunity to play in the SEC championship all comes down to their game with the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday at 7:15 PM. If Florida wins they are off to the SEC Championship in Atlanta.

South Carolina seems to have high and low performances, with their greatest high this year being their win over Alabama. South Carolina's last loss was big with them being handed a sound defeat by Arkansas of 41 to 20. Will this give them the drive to rebound and beat Florida?

Florida is coming off two victories, after their three losses. They seem to have established and offensive strategy that is working. Can they continue and defeat South Carolina?

Wouldn't it be sweet to see Florida defeat South Carolina and then replay LSU in Atlanta? That could be a very interesting.

Florida Gators, What Happened

I like so many had to endure the embarrassment and severe whooping Florida received from Alabama this weekend. It was never a question that Florida would struggle during this game, but they could have at least looked better getting stomped. The Gators looked so disorganized both offensively and defensively… I have seen more co-ordination during a water ballet performance.

Where to start? I’m not sure if the offensive co-coordinator, Brantley’s inability to throw on the move (except to the other team), or if Pouncey’s problems snapping the ball are where the trouble all begins. In addition to these issues I’m not sure why it seems that only Demps runs the ball even while injured. The Gators need to use more then the few failing plays they have and all of their offensive talent. Then there is the defense. A lot of talent, but no guidance as to what in the hell they are doing. I can’t even remember how many times I saw them hold up their hands not knowing what to do.

While Alabama did look great, Florida really made it easy for them. I’m not sure how the Florida Gators plan on handling the rest of their season, but I hope it will not be as disgraceful as this game.
